A Legacy of Service and Compassion

Sehine Mariam Esseye Gizaw was a remarkably selfless individual whose greatest joy came from uplifting those around her. By profession, she was an Architect who dedicated her talents to building schools for Prince George's County Schools (PGCS) — quite literally constructing the very spaces where young minds are shaped and futures are formed. But Sehine's commitment to young people extended far beyond her career. She devoted countless hours of her personal time to bettering the lives of children and students, driven by an unwavering belief that every young person deserved a brighter future. Her generous spirit was further reflected in her active role in her church community, where she passionately supported the youth program and served as a guiding light for the young people in her congregation.

Sehine's life was a testament to the power of putting others first. Whether she was designing a school, mentoring a child, or volunteering her time, she approached every endeavor with humility, purpose, and love. Nowhere was this more evident than through her dedicated volunteer work with the African Diaspora College (ADC) access program, where she served faithfully for several years, helping open doors of opportunity for students who might otherwise have gone without guidance and support on their path to higher education. She asked for nothing in return, finding fulfillment simply in knowing that her efforts made a difference.

This scholarship, established in her honor, carries forward the mission she held so dear: ensuring that deserving young people have the resources they need to pursue their college dreams.

Sehine's memory lives on in every student whose life she touched, and in every future scholar who benefits from her enduring legacy.
